The 1543 The English Reformation

1543 AD

Henry VIII married Katherine Parr in July. Katherine was Henry’s sixth wife and the one who famously survived him. She had significant Protestant leanings which were heightened once she became Queen of England. Queen Katherine translated the gospels into English, entertained Protestant preachers at her court, and curated the education of Prince Edward and Princess Elizabeth. Her influence shaped both Edward and Elizabeth’s protestant views which in turn cemented England’s status as a Protestant nation during their reigns.

Her outspoken views nearly got her killed when she offended the king and threatened some of his Catholic courtiers who were campaigning for a return to Rome. Her quick thinking saved her life though her marriage to Henry was never the same again.
